when you are around, i m underground
I touch the earth with a heavy heart, I look around then scream out loud. I put all fingers in the ground.
Sinking deep, looking at my feet.
Toes wiggle out the dust.
Now the grass, the rocks, the snails, the worms, are getting larger, and LaARGeER, and LAARGEER, like slow giants they are dancing.
Or is it me?
Am I too small?
It s dark.
Oh no…
I know now!
My face was drawn down to the ground.
Damp and cold, yet comforting, I feel it swallowing me.
Breath in…and out…in…and out…and in!
Smells like childhood, familiar yet distant.
The earth whispers is in my ear and I try to hear. To hear myself screaming.
But I am surrounded by intense silence, how can something so alive be so quiet?…so still…
I breathe out…

Ceramic Masks for ‘Had a Dream You Won’t Understand’ at Goodbuy Gallery, Bucharest
22 December2021 – 01 February 2022
Exhibition text: “You hear me? I just had this strange dream… oh my god, had a dream… you won’t understand
same, I answered. Any other answer seemed impossible.
In 2021, same (signaling approval) was declared one of the top expressions used by young people in communication. Our collective imagination and dreams haven’t been left untouched by images of death, of violence and poverty, expulsion, irreparable environmental damage, when all that is solid melts into the air.”
Ioana Mincu’s sculptures announce themselves like a bedtime story ritual, following an intimate engagement with the seen and unseen faces, with different versions of everyday encounters and beliefs.
